Little Friends and Cub Scouts

An opportunity is provided to gain life skills via Little Friends/ Cub Scouts programmes. Training them in life skills permit them to ‘Be Prepared’ to face life’s numerous challenges. This gives a great boost to their self confidence. Our Girl guides take part in activities organized by the Girl Guides’ Association.

Moral Education Mortivation & Counselling

Our school places a great emphasis on moral education, which has been included as a part of our curriculum. Every effort is taken to produce well mannered and smart pupils through Moral Education.

Our attempts to develop young people of high caliber have taken the form of displaying meaningful quotations, slogans and charts exhibiting qualities such as punctuality, honesty, creativity, and bravery, traits that pupils should exhibit in their classrooms, the school compound as well as in the home atmosphere. These are implemented in order to inculcate positive thoughts regarding personality development.

In addition, using appreciative words, giving stars, stickers, choosing star of the week in all areas of education, curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities and awarding certificates & trophies is a unique system adopted here.

Counseling plays a major role in the present education system. We believe that through counseling programmes children can be corrected and guided to a greater extent.

Prefects Induction (2013)

We elect a Board of Prefects every year and give them various responsibilities to perform in and at important functions of the school. This enables the pupils to get practical life experience in developing their leadership qualities. Grade 4 upward pupils cast their vote to elect prefects.

Shadow prefects are allotted to each of the prefects in order for the younger children to learn how to function as prefects

Leadership Workshops

Leadership workshops by qualified resource persons are arranged for prefects and other senior children from time to time to inculcate leadership qualities and to mould their personality.

Thought Exchange Board

Opportunities are given to all students to share their views with others through their own writing and these are displayed on the Thoughts Exchange Board’ in the school. Weekly two articles are chosen from each class for the ‘Thoughts Exchange Board’ and the best are displayed on the classroom notice board. In addition pupils are encouraged to maintain diaries. This has greatly helped pupils to improve their writing skill and has motivated them to the extent of writing essays for competitions and various magazines.

Literary Meetings

English literary meetings are held on a regular basis; Students of Grade One upwards participate in these meetings. The objective of these meetings is to open the doors for the pupils to exhibit their skills and talents through the presentation of various items like speeches, dialogues, songs, debates, drama etc.

Concerts are held on alternate years to the Sports Meets. The concerts highlight the students” talents and give the children a great opportunity to display their skills to their parents and the general public. The Management is very particular to check that novel and attractive ideas are presented at every occasion.

Generally Oxfordians are taken on educational trips at least once a year. In addition pupils are taken to nearby places whenever we feel such trips are necessary. Our pupils have visited Dambana, Udawalawe, Randenigala Tree Center, Nuwara Eliya, Pinnawela, Anuradhapura, Colombo, Haputhala and Bandarawala on Educational Trips. In addition pupils are taken to nearby places whenever we feel such trips are necessary. These trips are very educative, giving ample opportunities for pupils to gain practical life experiences which contribute to the all round development of the personality.

Recently two of our pupils won second place in the Art Competition held by Atlas Company. Our students have also taken part in Art, Essay, and Oratory Competitions, sponsored by the H.N.B. Sri Lanka. Pupils have been provided with opportunities to take part in competitions that are organized in school in all three languages such as English Day, Tamil Day, Sinhala Day, Cultural Day, Reading Day, Religious Day Competitions, etc… Carom and Chess Competitions too are held as extracurricular activities. In addition pupils are encouraged to take part in any competition organized by the Department of Education or private institutions.

Universal Children’s Day

This day, which highlights the rights and freedom of children, is celebrated on a grand scale in our school. Every year we have programmes to make pupils, parents and other adults in the Badulla city aware of the importance of this day. This is done by taking the Upper School pupils in a procession round the city of Badulla with slogans in their hands. Hand bills are printed by the school and distributed among the general public. Parents too join the procession and help in distributing the hand bills. Each year different programmes are designed for the entertainment of the children.

Religious & Cultural Events

In order to help students understand the value of their own religion, children are taken to their respective places of religious worship at the beginning of each academic year.  One of the main objectives of our school is to give our students an opportunity to know, understand and respect each other’s cultures. This knowledge goes a long way to bring peace and harmony among all ethnic groups of the country. Therefore, we organize religious days and Sinhala & Tamil Cultural Day with a lot of fun and enjoyment. Parents also actively take part in these great colourful and attractive events.

Teacher’s Day

Our senior pupils are responsible for organizing the Annual Teachers’ Day programme. They share their love, appreciation and gratitude as a token of their respect in numerous ways, on this day.
